Aerith and Tifa – Free Coloring Pages

I’m sure you’ve all been inundated with more ‘stay safe’ messages than you can take so I’m not going to get on your cases with even more. 2020 has been an absolute rollercoaster of a year, and here’s hoping we can all get through this with our health and sanity in tact! As some of you know, I teach full-time, and since school has been cancelled for about 2 months at this point and will not be resuming till next academic year (if then) I have found myself, as so many others, working from home, social distancing and with hours upon hours, days upon days on my hands.

Unfortunately, with nothing to do but play video games, work on my website, draw new artwork, and scroll through my phone – all while sitting with very bad posture on the sofa – I developed a repetitive stress injury last month in my right hand. It is just now starting to recover but it was a really dark time for me. Staying productive and creative is what keeps anxiety at bay for me, so not being able to do what I love and what makes me feel good was really crippling. Not to mention the underlying thought of “what if I can never draw again?” Artists and other creative types out there – take care of yourselves! Take frequent breaks and don’t over strain your hands! They are priceless. In any case, I’ve had loads of time to watch my sister play some fun Nintendo Switch games (we logged over 150 hours on Xenoblade Chronicles 2, send help). When the Final Fantasy VII remake was released and caused such buzz online, I gave the trailers and reviews a look – should I buy a Playstation? Unfortunately I was incredibly turned off by the uncanny valley hyper-realistic look they gave the characters (their faces look so real but their eyes are so BIG) and the voice acting just…nope. But the remake did make me nostalgic for the original, which I had played together with my siblings way back when. So I bought a copy of it for the Switch. And while the mini-fig-like sprites are certainly outdated, I loved playing the game now just as much as I did then. When my hand started feeling better, I began sketching the characters in short 20-minute intervals while watching my sister play.

I’ve drawn fanart of Cloud before but not of the Best Girls™, Tifa and Aerith. I really love their designs, especially Tifa’s! And so finally, I’m please to present to you all: two new free coloring pages of Aerith Gainsborough and Tifa Lockheart for your FFVII coloring needs. I knew from the start I wanted to draw Tifa doing a jumpkick – but that meant I had to modify her outfit a little. And honestly, I think she’s more of a hot-short girl than a miniskirt girl anyway. For Aerith, I had originally sketched out a more dynamic action pose for her as well, however I found her dress to be a real pain in the butt to draw for some reason, so I gave up and went for something a little more standard.

Hope you have fun coloring these iconic JRPG ladies! I have a quick sketch of Cloud that I started but didn’t go anywhere with – are you interested in a new Cloud lineart, complete with Buster Sword?
