YamPuff’s Stuff: My New Coloring Book!

YamPuff
The project that got way, way out of hand! YamPuff's Stuff was my first coloring book, published in 2015 - and it really shows! It's not nearly as polished as my later publications. I rushed through the coloring of the cover, didn't even design a back cover, and forgot to include a copyright page! In the years that followed I kept thinking about redoing the book, just simply making a new cover, adding a few linearts. Simple, easy. (more…)

Inktober 2017 Illustrations

Inktober 2017 Illustrations

Uncategorized
Well, this year's Inktober is finally over for me. There are a few days left in October, but I am feeling burnt out. Last year I only managed around 6 or 7 illustrations and a few of them were random doodles, so for me to have put up 18 pretty much complete illustrations, inked and with some color - well I'm pretty proud of myself! Maybe next year I'll even finish all 31 days of Inktober. But I know when to call it quits. This year my focus was on coming up with concept art for my new coloring book; Galaxy Dreams. And here they all are; my Inktober 2017 Illustrations! (more…)

Reading Girl Lineart – New Lineart Up!

Reading Girl Lineart – New Lineart Up!

New Lineart, YamPuff
I'm down with a cold and doing my best to relax - which somehow ended up in procrastinating on resting by getting some work done! I spent most of yesterday changing the last of my social media account names to YamPuff from HalfBakedYams (a name I chose back when I thought about starting a food blog, which never panned out). Of course, after changing the names I then had to go and fix all the social media links on my site and other accounts. A pain, but a necessary one. Now that that's done I moved on to completing the last prize for the old Butterfly Princess contest - a chibi lineart commission! The winner requested a girl sitting on a park bench reading a book, and here she is!…

Sailor Glam Metal – New YamPuff Lineart Up!

New Lineart, YamPuff
Hi all! A while back I held a little coloring contest, if you all remember, and the one of the prizes for the winners was a lineart commission. As usual, I got sidetracked by life and am waaay off schedule but I finally have something up! (Drumroll please) Introducing CaptainMetal's OC: Sailor Glam Metal! Drawing a character with cool long hair AND with a sailor senshi design? WELL FINE IF I HAVE TO. I've been having fun trying new styles and techniques with Inktober, so I had a go with her features - I think she looks a bit like a Bratz Doll fusion with my chibis. This cutie is available for coloring! You can download the linearts for digital coloring, or print them for traditional coloring and/or card making.…

Surface Book vs Wacom Cintiq – A Viable Replacement?

Surface Book vs Wacom Cintiq – A Viable Replacement?

YamPuff
The Surface Book - a viable pen tablet replacement for Wacom's high-end Cintiq 13hd? Buying the Cintiq was a life-changing moment for me. Being able to draw directly onto the monitor of a drawing tablet was something I had dreamed about for months as I saved up to afford one. Before that my only digital drawing tool was a used Wacom Intuos I got off ebay for cheap. With that kind of setup you look at the screen while you're drawing rather than at your hand. I've heard some artists say they prefer not having their hand in the way on the canvas. For me, the disconnect fatigued me. I couldn't draw for long stretches at a time and drawing became stressful, something I avoided when I could. So I…

The Making Of: A YamPuff Coloring Book

The Making Of: A YamPuff Coloring Book

YamPuff
I'm one of those people that starts loads of projects but never finishes them. Over the years I've tried my hand at just about everything - with the same results. Half-written novels, half-finished cross-stitch patterns, incomplete knitwear, and abandoned webcomics. The only exception to that rule has been making coloring books. Something about the process of starting from nothing but a concept and ending with a book in your hand is just magical to me. When I started on my first coloring book project (YamPuff's Stuff), I was incredibly intimidated and I didn't know if I would be able to do it. I certainly wouldn't have been able to get through without the help of some amazing Facebook groups! (Shoot me a message if you'd like an invite to the…

Nehelenia Lineart Update

Nehelenia Lineart Update

New Lineart
My quest to update some of my older linearts that I have recently become unsatisfied with continues!! This week I have redrawn Nehelenia, from Sailor Moon. I like how her design gives the sensation of a dark Sailor Moon, what with the hair buns and the empire waist dress. I redrew the skirt and hair a few times before I was satisfied with it. I think I managed to inject a bit more personality into the character, with her pose as well as her facial expression! Nehelenia If you know anything about me, you probably know that I am big old Moonie! I did not actually get into Sailor Moon as a kid when the horrible English dub used to play on television, but rather when I was an older…
