Back in 2020, right before the COVID pandemic and lockdown became a thing, I published Flowery Dreams. I remember taking the photoshoot of that coloring book in the outdoor grassy area of my workplace, empty as everyone started working from home. That summer I published the Dreams Collection, a coloring book of all my ‘dreams’ themed coloring books gathered together in one anthology. After that, however, I felt as though my ideas had dried up and I was uninspired. There were times when I thought I was done as a coloring book artist and should maybe move on to something else. But then, in April 2021, an idea finally came to me. I can’t even remember where the inspiration came from. But the thought was simple: Tarot Cards.
I did some pretty quick sketches of The Fool, the Magician and the High Priestess which were very well-received on Instagram. And so began my Tarot journey. I quickly realized that 78 cards was a tall order and maybe too much to complete in one go, and decided that I would first complete the Trump Cards, or the Major Arcana. Consisting of 22 cards altogether with fantastic characters ranging from Death to the Wheel of Fortune, this seemed like a much more doable task.
Finally, in October of 2022, the Major Arcana set is complete and has been published as a coloring book on amazon! It has been quite the journey, going through all of the Trump Cards, and designing this new book. My original idea had always been that the book itself would be shaped like a Tarot Card, and so the dimensions reflect that. It’s thinner than my usual books so as to fit the card coloring pages perfectly. I also learned a lot about Tarot along the way, and so, much like my Chibi Zodiac book, I’ve also included information about each of the characters.
As for the Minor Arcana, I will eventually release them as suites; all of the sword cards, the coins, the cups and wands (four parts). And then when THOSE are done, a complete 78-card coloring book will be released, so stay tuned!
