Rapunzel Lineart Update!

When I decided that my website would be the eventual host for all of my existing free-for-color linearts, the only thing holding me back was the linearts that had definitely not aged well. Art I drew back in the olden days, or art that was rushed and unpolished. So, my plan for moving my hundreds of existing lines onto yampuff.com included a goal of updating and fixing up all linearts I’m unsatisfied with.

For the most part that meant minor fixes and tweaks, adding in pupils to the blank-eyed linearts I began drawing few years ago (that my colorists were never fans of), shrinking a few heads or aligning some eyes. For other linearts, a full revamp was needed. I put those to the side, to work on in my free time. And so, and old favorite got a much-needed facelift.

Disney’s Rapunzel

I made the original lineart for a coloring contest on DeviantArt. I think it was the first lineart I made with blank eyes, so as to give colorists the chance to make their own eye style. It turned out not to be a popular feature and I eventually stopped doing it. This lineart was the addition to my Disney Princess lineart collection I was more unsatisfied with and as time went by I became more and more unhappy with it. It was one of the first linearts I knew I would have to revamp before bringing it over to yampuff.com.

And revamp it I did! I tried to keep the soul of the original intact, since I did like the old pose and the flowers, focusing just on improving the art. I fixed her dress to be closer to the official Disney design and removed Pascal, as drawing chameleons was never a specialty of mine. The hair also underwent some restyling.

Rapunzel is not one of my favorite Disney movies (although the floating lantern scene is MAGNIFICENT) – but I do like Rapunzel herself quite a lot. She’s an artist, ditzy and goofy, but also sweet and likeable. Not to mention making her hair this incredibly annoying burden they have to carry around the whole film, almost like a third character, was kind of a brilliant idea.

Anyways, what you’re all here for: The Lineart! You’ll be able to find it under the Linearts > Fanart section of the website, and also right here.
